Guest Mix + Interview: Voldex
Hello! Today, we have the opportunity to catch up with Voldex, a producer based out of Germany who has been releasing a ton of good music lately. On top of being featured on Trap Nation, Armada Music, Tribal Trap, TuneBoost, and many more, she also has an impressive discography that proves how versatile of a producer she is. For example, her most recent upload is a psytrance & hard dance remix of Overdrive by Space Laces, but her remix of In The Dark by Jochen Miller and Cuebrick, which she made alongside Nyha and Thomas, is trap. Taking more of an approach towards hardstyle nowadays, Voldex is sure not to disappoint, and definitely isn't going to disappoint you with this insane guest mix, which you can listen to here:
Now for our interview. We like to start out all of our interviews by building up some hype. So, what do you have planned in the future? Anything upcoming we should know about?
- At the moment, I'm currently working on different projects in different styles to find my very own unique way of producing while being versatile. I'm producing a lot of hardstyle (especially rawstyle and happy hardcore) recently and I'm trying to build a fanbase around that certain genre. However, I'm still producing trap as well since it's inspiring me a lot. To be honest, I've just created a rap alias recently and I've got some almost finished tracks to be out soon!
Who is Voldex?
- I'm a 19-year-old German producer. My real name is Christine Sladek, and I'm currently living near Hamburg. Since October 2018, I've been studying music technology at an academy and I'm trying to finish my bachelor by summer 2021. When I was 5 years old, I started learning how to play the electric guitar and since then, I've expressed my passion for music. Since 2012, I've also started playing the drums and I still practice my skills today. In my free time, I mainly produce music but I also work on my very own label called VXII Records, which is built around a small artist network/collective with a lot of versatile styles getting together. Other than music, I just hang out with friends here and there, go to some festivals, and play video games (especially old SNES and N64 games!).
How long have you been making music for?
- I started producing when I was 12 years old, so 2012. Back then I actually wanted to be a let's-player, and needed background music for a gaming montage. However, I didn't want to use any copyrighted music, so I used my iPad to create my very own beats on GarageBand. Shortly after, I tried using FL Studio and in late 2013 I switched to Logic Pro X which I still use today.
We've noticed that most of your uploads for the past few months have been remixes. Any plans on releasing an original?
- That's right. In the last few months, I have released a lot of remixes. However, I do have a TON of finished original songs. Some of them are already signed to labels and will be out shortly!
Anything else you'd like for readers to know?
- Just keep being yourself. No matter if it's music-related, your hobby, your work, anything. Always try to be yourself in every situation life has to offer and stay as unique and as beautiful as you are!
Give us 5 artists that you think are gonna kill it this year!
- Hmm... good question! In the hardstyle scene, I'd go for Killshot, Thyron, and Atmozfears. Regarding trap, I'd go for Besomorph and Coopex. Really loving their style and I think they'll get way bigger in the future!
Of course, we always end it off with something casual. So, what's your favorite food of all time?
- My favorite food of all time has to be sushi, especially nigiri!
